When you try to change the Global Address List visibility of an Office 365 user you may receive the following error message:
“Couldn’t update mailbox global address list info”
The error message in Microsoft 365 Admin Center will look similar to this:

Like so many errors in Office 365 management, this is caused by your local Active Directory being authoritative for the attribute.
To fix this problem, change the ‘msExchHideFromAddressLists’ attribute of the AD user object to FALSE (or clear it).
